On
January 3, 2012 at 10:27am, Galloway Police Officer Bryan Casey conducted a
motor vehicle stop on Rt 30 just east of 8th Ave on a white 1997
Ford Explorer. The driver, Alysha Levenski, age 21 of Somers Point, was
stopped for motor vehicle violations. A male passenger, later identified as
Matthew Tomlinson, age 24 of Somers Point provided a false name to police.
There was also a third occupant in the vehicle, Troy Helduser, age 35 of
Folsom NJ. K9 Corporal Mark D’Esposito arrived to assist.
As
officers were attempting to identify Tomlinson he fled on foot across Rt 30
with officers in foot pursuit. Tomlinson fled through a wooded area into a
residential section of Absecon. Several other officers from Absecon and
Galloway responded to establish a perimeter. As officers were searching
backyards Tomlinson emerged and was apprehended near Morton Ave and Shelburne
Ave in Absecon. When officers returned to the vehicle, they found that
Helduser had also fled. Levenski, who was still on scene, was charged with
Hindering Apprehension of Another as well as motor vehicle offenses for having
a broken windshield, view obstruction and no rear view mirror. Helduser was
charged with Hindering Apprehension of Another and Obstruction of Justice.
Tomlinson
was found to have a Violation of Probation Warrant from the Atlantic County
Superior Court and a Municipal Warrant. Tomlinson was charged with Hindering
Apprehension, Resisting Arrest and Agg Assault on Police. His bail was set by
JMC Howard Freed at $50,000 cash. Tomlinson was transported to the Atlantic
County Justice Facility.
